Amazon Starts Selling Used Cars

Online retail giant Amazon is starting to sell used cars, which could start reshaping the industry as we know it. If you didn’t already know, since December shoppers have been able to buy or lease new Hyundais on Amazon Autos. But that service is expanding to now include certified pre-owned vehicles from local dealerships.

Porsche is busy fixing its dumb decision.

That’s right, dealers can list their CPO inventory on Amazon Autos, just like what Hyundai dealers have been doing with their new inventory. That means more people are going to start flocking to the site to find their next ride, and we suspect this will have a snowball effect.

Amazon is also putting its marketing might to work to spread the word.

Of course, Hyundai dealerships are going to be first in line to sell their CPO inventory on Amazon Autos. After all, they’re already on the site. But it will be interesting to see which other dealerships get onboard.

Sadly, the Amazon Autos service doesn’t work like Carvana, so you don’t get the vehicle delivered to your driveway. Instead, you have to go to the dealership to take delivery, but everything else can apparently be done on the site.

Maybe Prime Autos will be a thing one day.

Fan Jin, head of Amazon Autos, let it slip that the goal is to keep expanding the service. “This move continues our commitment to support local dealerships, now connecting dealers with more prospective customers online across new, certified pre-owned, and used vehicle categories.”

That’s right, non-certified used cars will be coming. And it sounds like the company is trying to get more new models from brands that aren’t Hyundai on the site.

To kick off the new CPO program, this service will only be available in Los Angeles. But Amazon says more cities will be added in the coming months, so you might have access soon.
