Campers excited for first day of Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa State Fair Campgrounds are packed with trailers, RVs and tents as campers prepare for the beginning of the Iowa State Fair.

Mac Moore, a camper at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, said his favorite night is the one before the fair starts.

“It’s my favorite night because you come here, and I’m from Pleasantville, Iowa myself, and it seems like our whole town is already here. And it’s nice to kind of see everyone that you haven’t seen all summer or sometimes all year,” Moore said.

Chase Widmer, also a camper at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, said he can’t wait for the fair to start.

“Right now it’s Wednesday night. I am so ready for tomorrow. Going out on the fair and enjoying the fair,” Widmer said.

Janie Stark said it was her first time camping at the fairgrounds this year.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever got to do this. So we came Monday and we’re staying the whole time. This is the first time I’ve ever got to camp up here for the whole two weeks,” Stark said.

The Iowa State Fair begins at 8 a.m. on August 7.
