Last Saturday, a man driving his McLaren 720S near Munich, Germany lost control and submarined the car under a guardrail. From the photos, you would suspect this was a fatal crash, possibly a case of decapitation, and that’s exactly what first responders thought when they arrived on the scene.
Big Balls steps in to stop a carjacking and gets a serious beating.
But the driver, who thankfully was alone in the British supercar at the time, only suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, then released. The guy was super lucky, but we hope he learned a lesson from the crash, lest he repeat the same mistake later.

German news site NTV says the driver, a 61-year-old man was driving in a way police characterized as too fast for conditions since it recently rained and the road was wet. Goosing your supercar when there’s standing water is a great way to find yourself suddenly not on the road.
Because supercars sit so low to the ground, safety measures designed for regular passenger vehicles don’t necessarily work for them. That’s true for Mansfield Bars on the back of commercial trucks or guardrails on the side of roads, like in this accident.
The safety device meant to keep vehicles from running off the pavement and cashing into a tree or some other object became a tool of destruction for the McLaren 720S. Thankfully, as the supercar submarined under it and the roof was crushed, the forward momentum stopped before the metal rail reached the driver’s head.
However, the McLaren supercar is likely done for. While there are surely some parts on it worth something, most of the body is just plain gone after the horror crash. We suspect the carbon fiber tub is also damaged, but the powertrain might be just fine.
