Two Pennsylvania state troopers were shot Thursday, Aug. 7, while responding to a call in Susquehanna County, police said.

"They were both transported to local hospitals," PSP said in a post on X shared just after 2 p.m. Thursday. "The public should avoid the incident area, located on Route 171, approximately five miles north of the town of Thompson."

Details surrounding the troopers' conditions and a potential suspect have not been made public, though police said in a statement that information will be released at a later time.

While attending an event outside Philadelphia on Thursday, Gov. Josh Shapiro said he was aware of the shooting and that he and his wife Lori are "praying for the troopers," the Associated Press reported.

"It is an active situation and at the conclusion of this event I plan to head there myself," he said.

Thompson is located about 40 miles north of Scranton.
