KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Long before the Country Club Plaza became a staple of Kansas City shopping, Brookside started as the city’s original shopping destination.
Developed by J.C. Nichols, the shopping district was designed to create an environment with a strong sense of community centered around walkable businesses.
Brookside continues to thrive, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists.
Here are four must-sees for your next visit to Brookside.
1. Brookside Toy and Science
One of the standout attractions in Brookside is Brookside Toy and Science, a local store that has been serving customers since 1964.
The store isn’t just a place to buy toys, but it’s also a space where children can interact with educational tools, sparking creativity and curiosity.
Brookside Toy and Science is located at 330 West 63rd St.
2. Corner Candle Shop
If you are looking to tap into your creative side, then Corner Candle Shop is the place for you!
The store allows you to create candles from scratch – choosing from a variety of molds, including teapots, coffee mugs or bowls, to fill with your preferred scent.
Corner Candle Shop is located at 6231 Brookside Plaza.
3. Bella Napoli
Brookside thrives because of the families in the neighborhoods surrounding it, so it makes sense that our third must-see is Bella Napoli!
It’s an Italian restaurant and deli that pays homage to Italian heritage by importing most items from the old country.
Bella Napoli is located at 6229 Brookside Blvd.
4. The John Wornall House Museum
Rounding out our must-sees is the historic John Wornall House Museum.
The museum was completed in 1858 and remained in the family until 1962. The mission of the museum is to transport people back in time so they can appreciate Brookside’s history.
The Wornall House Museum is located at 6115 Wornall Rd.
