
IOWA — Following routine weekly testing, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced Friday that 16 Iowa state beaches are not advisable for swimming.

According to the DNR’s website, 15 of the state beaches were found to have E. Coli levels higher than the state’s standard. The affected beaches are listed below:
Backbone Beach in Delaware County
Beeds Lake Beach in Franklin County
Bobwhite Beach in Wayne County
Brushy Creek Beach in Webster County
Crandalls Beach in Dickinson County
Emerson Bay Beach Dickinson County
Lake Ahquabi Beach in Warren County
Lake Darling Beach in Washington County
Lake Manawa Beach in Pottawattamie County
Lake of Three Fires Beach in Taylor County
Nine Eagles Beach in Decatur County
Pine Lake South Beach in Hardin County
Pleasant Creek Beach in Linn County
Prairie Rose Beach in Shelby County
Union Grove Beach in Tama County
According to the DNR’s website, one of the beaches did not exceed the standards for E. Coli but did exceed the state’s standards for Algal toxin action level.
Viking Lake Beach in Montgomery County
Many of these beaches have been under a swimming not recommended advisory for several weeks due to persistent high E. coli levels. Advisories will be in place until the levels drop below the state standard.
