Authorities are investigating whether the latest incident on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025 is connected to other recent shootings in town, including cases involving Andrew Weaver and Matthew Dawe in separate gun violence episodes.

A 17-year-old was charged last week after allegedly shooting at a parked car multiple times in Phillipsburg, authorities said.

The teen was not identified by police because he is a juvenile. He was detained Tuesday on an arrest warrant and is awaiting a hearing before a Warren County Family Court judge.

There were no reported injuries. Authorities said area surveillance footage connected the teen to the shooting, which remains under investigation.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. He was also charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.

The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges Friday evening.

Phillipsburg police just after 4:15 p.m. Tuesday received an alert from their gunshot detection technology that shots were fired in the 100 block of Henderson Street.

Investigators found several discharged cartridge casings at Henderson and Wilson streets. Bullet holes were also found in a vehicle parked nearby, police said.

Tuesday’s incident is the latest in a series of shootings in Phillipsburg over the past few weeks.

It’s not immediately known if any of the incidents are connected.

Andrew Robert Weaver, 20, of the first block of Rose Street in Phillipsburg, was charged after allegedly knocking on a homeowner’s door in the early hours of Aug. 3 and then firing gunshots. One of the shots traveled through a window as the homeowner came to answer the door, authorities said.

Matthew R. Dawe, 32, of the 100 block of Lewis Street, is facing similar charges after police say he fired gunshots July 30 at a home of a neighbor.

Police have responded to at least five other incidents of gun violence in recent months for the town.

Investigators on June 30 found evidence a shooting happened shortly before 2 a.m. at Mercer and River streets. Dorien E. Roberts, 18, of Port Murray, and Alfatir T. Kelly, 26, of Phillipsburg, each were later charged in connection with the shootings.

A man on June 2 was found fatally shot outside a Phillipsburg home along Summit Avenue. The man, identified as Kevin Clervil, of East Orange, had been shot several times and later succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital, authorities said.

On May 15, police recovered evidence of two more incidents of gunfire in the 100 block of Broad Street and Memorial Parkway.

A 26-year-old woman, Hadiyah Peggins, was then killed a day later in a stabbing at a home in the 400 block of Anderson Street. A Maryland man, 28-year-old Jamari E. Dortch, is charged with first-degree homicide in connection with Peggins’ death.

The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office and Phillipsburg Police Department are seeking witnesses of the most recent shooting. Those with information are asked to contact Phillipsburg police at 908-835-2002.
