Sinister Sleeper: Restomod First Gen Camaro

There’s no denying a first gen Camaro is an iconic, good-looking muscle car, even if by today’s standards performance lags. It’s with that latter in mind that professional shop Resto Mods took this ’67 and worked it over big time, creating a bit of a sleeper that also looks nice and sinister.

One might argue no Camaro is a true sleeper car. While it’s true that dropping a powerful engine and potent drivetrain in an old Chevy Celebrity would make for more of a surprise, the fact is there are plenty of good-looking but just okay first gen Camaros out there. For all anyone knows, this is one of those.

Instead, this thing brings the heat big time with a supercharged Wegner 427 LSX V8. It’s a setup that’s been tuned on pump gas to put 750-horsepower to the ground, allowing for plenty of rear tire roasting good times.

That’s paired with a T56 Magnum 6-speed manual transmission, so you as the driver can have plenty of fun.

In the rear is a Chris Alston’s Chassisworks FAB9, with is a nine-inch axle with a four-link suspension with coilovers. Up front is also a Chris Alston’s suspension setup with rack and pinion steering.

Subframe connectors help stiffen everything up, a necessary step when adding so much power to a vehicle. There’s a half cage added to further aid with that aim.

Upgrading the brakes is also necessary when boosting the output dramatically. That upgrade is from Wilwood and features four-piston calipers plus cross drilled and slotted rotors.

In other words, this car has been built to not just cruise around but beat on and have a lot of raucous fun.

There’s a little bit of comfort added, too. Recaro seats with nice houndstooth inserts, plus racing harnesses, help keeping you firmly in place while powering through turns. The shop added cupholders and a nice center console, which are touches of modernity.
