Spencer Hatcher is grieving the tragic loss of his mother, Holly Hatcher, who was killed during a fatal home invasion in Virginia. The devastating incident has led the rising country star to cancel several scheduled performances as his family navigates the aftermath of this traumatic event.
“It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that — due to a monumental loss in our family — I must cancel my upcoming shows at VOA Country Music Fest in Butler County, OH (8/8) and at Rockingham County Fair in Harrisonburg, VA (8/11 & 8/12),” Spencer wrote on Instagram.
“I hope to make these dates up to my fans in the future. I appreciate everyone that has lent their support to me and my loved ones. We ask that everyone please respect our family’s privacy at this time.”
According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded to an emergency 911 call on August 3 involving a home invasion with an armed suspect. When deputies arrived at the residence, they discovered Holly’s husband, Michael Hatcher, with visible injuries sustained during a altercation with the intruder.
A second man, later identified as Kevin Walker, was found deceased in the home’s driveway. Deputies later discovered a female victim inside the home, confirmed to be Holly, who had suffered fatal wounds.
“It was determined that the offender entered the home armed with a large knife and stabbed the victim, causing her fatal injuries,” the police report stated.
“The offender proceeded to attack the caller with the knife and an altercation began. The altercation continued outside the residence, and the caller was able to retrieve a handgun from his vehicle and fire a single shot, which stopped the attack and killed the offender.”
Spencer and his father spoke publicly about the horrifying incident during a press conference on August 7. “This has been a highly unusual event,” the country star said. “There are a lot of rumors, but we’re coming to you with just the facts we know.”
Michael, holding back tears, spoke emotionally about the violent incident that shattered their lives.
“There is no way for you to know the trauma and the pain and the unanswered questions that I have had … about this terrible tragedy,” he said. “Each of you have made it much more bearable through your outpouring of love and your caring and your kindness and your support to all of us. For that, I thank you so much.”
As the investigation continues, fans and members of the country music community have rallied around Spencer, offering condolences and messages of support on social media. The singer has not yet announced when he will return to performing, but has expressed gratitude for the ongoing love shown to his family.
