One person is dead following a plane crash in Monticello

A North American T-28B aircraft crashed into a field due to "unknown circumstances" just after 8 p.m. on Aug. 11, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The pilot, who was the only person on board, died. The identity of the pilot has yet to be released.

East Iowa Air Inc., based in Bennett, Iowa, is registered as the owner of the aircraft, according to the FAA. The plane was originally manufactured for the armed forces as a trainer aircraft. It is a two-seat plane equipped with one engine that could reach speeds up to 208 mph.

Where is Monticello, Iowa?

Monticello, is in eastern Iowa, near Dubuque. It is two and a half hours away from Des Moines.
