On the heels of announcing 33 truck parking rest stops to handle Ohio's increased semi-truck traffic and unveiling new interstate rest areas, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine helped open a new visitor center at Mohican State Park on Aug. 12.
DeWine and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Mary Mertz opened the new Mohican State Park Visitor Center in Ashland County with a ribbon-cutting celebration, ODNR said in a Facebook post.
Mohican State Park, located in Loudonville, between Columbus and Akron, has been a hot spot area for nature adventurers, with the park's popular scenic rivers, abundant fishing spots, a historic lodge, hiking areas and more. The new vistior center allows for comfort, accessibility, and education about the historic park.
"[W]e want everyone to have a first-class experience when visiting one of our state parks," Governor DeWine said. "Mohican State Park has so much to offer, and the new visitor center serves as a perfect welcome point for guests to learn about the region's natural history."—Gov. Mike DeWine
The Mohican State Park Visitor Center is a 5,205-square-foot building, featuring a central exhibit hall that displays the park’s natural and cultural history. This visitor center also has restrooms, drinking fountains, a retail area, an indoor fireplace and seating area, and an interactive children’s space. The center also has entrance ramps, making it accessible to all visitors, according to a release from the Governor's office.
