How to watch memorial service for former Oklahoma Gov. George Nigh live

Hundreds of people are expected to attend a memorial service for former Gov. George Nigh on Thursday, Aug. 14 .

The legendary politician died July 30 at the age of 98. His memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. at Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton will deliver a eulogy during the service, and opera star Leona Mitchell will perform. The service will be streamed online starting at 10:45 a.m.

Born and raised in McAlester, Nigh went on to serve in the state’s highest office four times and guided it through the early stages of the 1980s oil bust. As governor, he appointed the first two female justices to the state highest civil court.

As a legislator in the 1950s, Nigh convinced his fellow lawmakers to adopt “Oklahoma” as the state song. Later in life, he presided over the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond for five years.
