U.S. Marshals arrest 141 fugitives in gang violence sweep

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Over 140 fugitives have been arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force during Operation Memphis Streets, a two-week-long gang violence reduction initiative.

The operation began from July 14 to July 25. Six arrest teams were deployed, and other law enforcement officers were deputized as Special Deputy Marshals when necessary.

USMS says the operation led to the arrest of 141 fugitives, including 14 wanted for homicide, and cleared 163 arrest warrants.

In addition to the 14 homicide fugitives being arrested, other arrests included 67 aggravated assaults, 16 sex-related crimes, and 16 robberies. USMS says 31 of the fugitives were known or suspected gang members.

Five firearms were found, and three of them were reported stolen, according to USMS.

“Collaborative efforts such as Operation Memphis Streets are critical to building a Stronger, Safer
Memphis,” said CJ Davis, MPD Police Chief. “By working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service and our federal partners, we are able to remove dangerous criminals from our streets and protect the people we serve.”

USMS listed the following notable arrests below,

  • Victor Peeler — 12 Counts of Attempted Murder for shooting at MPD Officers on Independence Day.

  • Talia Jones — Facilitation of First-Degree Murder, and was arrested in Minneapolis, MN.

  • Travis Boyd — First-Degree Murder warrant out of West Memphis, AR, and was arrested in Memphis.

  • Derrion Taylor — First-Degree Murder and two Counts of Attempted Murder. The homicide victim was 93 years old.
