Man Throws Homemade Grenade At Car Thieves

A man in Florence, Oregon flung a homemade grenade at some car thieves, but it didn’t work how the guy intended. Detonating early, the explosive device blew off part of the man’s forearm and hand. And yes, truth is so much stranger than fiction.

Stop Sticks deployed right before fatal police chase crash.

Part of us wants to laugh about this story, even though the outcome for the guy is horrible. After all, who makes a grenade at their house? And why would you use one on some people you think are stealing your car?

If they’re next to your vehicle and the grenade goes off by it, wouldn’t that damage the car? Isn’t that the very thing the guy was trying to protect?

We really don’t understand what line of reasoning went into this scenario.

According to local news station KEZI, Daivd Ray Allen saw four people near his car parked on the road in the middle of the night. Fearing they were going to steal it, he went outside, lit the improvised grenade, threw it, and it exploded immediately, leaving him injured.

When police showed up, all the evidence for what happened was right there on the ground. Instead of trying to hunt down the supposed thieves, police charged Allen with unlawful possession and manufacture of a destructive device and disorderly conduct.

We know what you’re thinking: isn’t this America? Can’t we make and throw our homemade grenades at people we think might steal our car? Whatever happened to Land of the Free, Home of the Brave?

To be clear, we don’t recommend throwing any explosive devices, shooting, or otherwise assaulting people who are by your car and you think are going to steal it. If you’re concerned about what you can do if someone’s skulking around your ride, talk to an attorney and learn about your local laws.
