Valkyrie Bedazzled Without The Owner's Knowledge

When you own a collection of some of the finest supercars ever made, turning up with one of them at Monterey Car Week is hardly special. How do you stand out in the esteemed company that will travel the 17-Mile Drive when your peers are also driving the latest and greatest automotive masterpieces? More importantly, how do you make the experience exciting for yourself? For the anonymous collector who goes by Supercar Ron, the answer was to tell his fleet manager and social media content creator, Tace Anderson, to wrap his Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider and surprise him with the end result this week. For better or worse, some liberties were taken, and the rhinestone-covered attention seeker below is the result.

Tace first approached Young Film & Finish for a base coating to wrap the Valkyrie Spider in, atop which the rhinestones would be applied. Crystal Ninja then brought its team to the garage to hand apply more than 300,000 individual rhinestones, with 12 people working 12 hours a day for eight days straight, accumulating more than 1,500 hours of labor. Even the leading edge of the front spoiler, the engine intake, the outlets behind the front wheels, and parts of the steering wheel were covered in these rhinestones, which will obviously have a negative effect on aerodynamics. There's also a small weight penalty, the rhinesones adding around 35 pounds to the car's mass, but with 1,160 horsepower on tap from a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 hybrid powertrain, the additional mass won't be evident from the driver's seat. However, there will likely be some additional wind noise. Not as much as there was when a semi truck sideswiped Ron's one-of-19 Ferrari F40 LM, but still.

A Standard Has Been Set

Obviously, this sort of thing is great for grabbing attention, but it can't be easy to maintain, and we suspect the car will lose several rhinestones before the end of Monterey Car Week. Still, at least Ron and Tace have protected the paint, and reversing this transformation will be much easier than installation. The only question is, how does one top this? In the world of automotive social media content, the only way to keep going viral is to do even more ridiculous things. Perhaps next year, Ron can get Tace to put a lift kit on his Huracán Sterrato.
