Elevating the Mustang Legacy

When Ford introduced the Mustang GTD, it pushed the nameplate into territory long dominated by European and Japanese supercars. Developed alongside the Mustang GT3 race car, the GTD combined advanced aerodynamics, lightweight construction, and a powertrain capable of competing on the most demanding tracks in the world. It even claimed the title of fastest American production car around the Nürburgring for a time, before the Corvette ZR1 emerged to challenge it.

While owning a Mustang GTD is already a ticket into an elite club, Ford has now added a version designed to draw even more envy from fellow enthusiasts – the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon.

Fully Exposed Carbon Fiber Body

Revealed at Laguna Seca Raceway in the middle of Monterey Car Week, the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon is a callback to the GT Liquid Carbon from 2020, focusing on showcasing its lightweight carbon fiber bodywork rather than covering it with paint. The move shaves about 13 pounds compared to the Mustang GTD Carbon Series with the Performance package. The weight savings come in part from replacing sheet metal doors with bonded carbon fiber panels.

Functional aerodynamic elements remain integral with the GTD Liquid Carbon, with the hood, roof, rear deck, and wing's carbon weave perfectly aligned along the vehicle's centerline. The fenders and side panels match up with dorsal elements to create a continuous pattern.

The Liquid Carbon trim also comes with exclusive black Brembo brake calipers and gloss-black GTD badging. The Performance package, which includes track-focused enhancements, comes standard.

Inside, the cabin combines black leather and Dinamica microfiber suede with Hyper Lime stitching across the seats, door panels, center console, instrument panel, and steering wheel. A reflective center gradient on the seats adds a visual focal point without distracting from the GTD's functional, competition-inspired atmosphere.

"Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon is the ultimate expression of the Mustang GTD's high-tech, high-performance construction and is a reminder of the race-derived, cutting-edge capability that sits beneath the surface of every Mustang GTD," said Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall. "Mustang GTD is a great looking car and now it stands out even more with its striking exposed carbon body and functional aero elements."

Reaching Customers in Fall

The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon trim joins the standard Mustang GTD, the Spirit of America edition, and the Carbon Series, giving buyers the option of just how much carbon fiber is exposed with their GTDs.

Ford has yet to disclose the price for the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon, but we expect it to command a premium over the standard GTD that starts at $318,760, so yes, you'll need deep pockets for this one.

According to Ford, the Liquid Carbon will begin reaching customers in October. It's unclear if this trim will be offered in limited numbers, but we won't be surprised if it is, since it's Ford's ultimate pony car.
