A Modern Take on a Bold Porsche Classic

The Porsche Slantnose 911 was certainly unique. It's one of the automaker's more unusual experiments of the '80s, inspired by the marque's racing success with the 935. With a flat, elongated nose, the Slantnose was polarizing, yet it became a distinctive option for road cars. Decades later, the Slantnose 911 remains a reminder of Porsche's willingness to test design boundaries.

Gunther Werks, known for its meticulous reimaginings of air-cooled 911s, had never attempted a Slantnose interpretation until now. At The Quail during Monterey Car Week, the company unveiled Project F-26, its first Slantnose-inspired build.

"The Slantnose is a bold icon from Porsche's past," says Peter Nam, founder of Gunther Werks. "The timing felt right to reimagine it with modern craftsmanship and engineering. It's our way of bridging nostalgia with next-gen performance for the modern driver."

Polarizing Looks with 1,000 Horses On Tap

Project F-26 gets its name from both its production cap of 26 units and the aerodynamic form of a fighter jet. The design references Porsche's 935 and road-going Slantnose, but it is executed entirely in carbon fiber, including the nose, doors, and rear panels.

The pop-up headlights of the original Slantnose are replaced with fixed units, improving airflow and shaving weight. A tall carbon-fiber rear wing, squared-off fenders, and new side intakes complete the transformation. Curb weight is held to about 2,700 pounds.

Power comes from a 4.0-liter air-cooled twin-turbo flat-six developed with Rothsport Racing. The engine produces 1,000 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque, managed through a six-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential.

Cooling is handled by a race-derived flat fan that doubles the airflow of a standard 911 fan, ensuring even distribution to all six cylinders.

Supporting hardware includes a carbon fiber airbox, redesigned intercooler plenum, integrated blowoff valves, and lightweight charge pipes. Exhaust duties fall to a 935-style system with external wastegates.

The chassis features an extended wheelbase at the rear, double-wishbone front suspension, adaptive JRZ dampers, and motorsport-grade ABS. Magnesium Turbo Twist monoblock wheels carry Continental ExtremeContact Force tires, sized 295/30R18 at the front and 335/30R18 at the rear.

Extremely Limited Production

Inside, the F-26 blends racing function with subtle craftsmanship. Exposed carbon fiber is paired with custom leather, Alcantara accents, and a wooden shift knob that recalls Porsche's motorsport past. A retro-inspired dashboard integrates a Porsche Classic radio with Apple CarPlay, balancing nostalgia with modern convenience.

Production will be limited to 26 units, each tailored to its buyer. Pricing has not been announced, but we expect it to enter the $1 million range before options.
