
No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Penn State each have three players on the Associated Press preseason All-American first team, which was announced on Monday. The Longhorns and Nittany Lions took the top two spots in the preseason AP Top 25 poll, released last week.

The top-ranked Longhorns have a trio from their defense on the first team in edge rusher Colin Simmons, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and safety Michael Taaffe. The second-ranked Nittany Lions placed running back Nicholas Singleton and offensive lineman Olaivavega Ioane from their defense, in addition to defensive lineman Zane Durant.
Five schools placed two players on the first team, including No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Clemson, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 8 Alabama and unranked Pittsburgh.
Going by conference, the first team features 12 players from the SEC, seven from the Big Ten, four from the ACC and two from the Big 12.
