Tuthill's Meyers Manx LFG Sounds Incredible Ripping Canyons

Out of all of the new machinery that debuted during Monterey Car Week, the collaboration between Meyers Manx and Tuthill remains one of the bigger highlights. Known as the LFG, the flat-six-powered, carbon-fiber construction buggy brings a no limits approach to California’s iconic beach machine. Thanks to racing driver Charlie Tuthill (whose father runs the shop responsible for the build), we now have a chance to see the thing in action.

The LFG is a collaborative process between Tuthill and Meyers Manx, but it's really more of a project between very talented (and well-funded) buddies. Phillip Sarofim, who is the financier behind the Meyers Manx rebirth, is a long time friend and customer of Richard Tuthill. The project started as a thought exercise between the two, bouncing back ideas on what would warrant the world’s best Manx. The end result is not a cruiser, but rather a dedicated off-road machine with a bespoke four-wheel drive system supported by three differentials. Five-way adjustable dampers with hydraulic bump stops should keep things on track on the desert whoops, while the closed cabin keeps things a bit more comfortable. You can, of course, open up the cabin for the classic Manx experience, too.

The real start of the show is the engine, which is a Tuthill-built 4.0-liter flat-six ripper sitting in back. We do not know exactly how much power the mill is cranking out, but we do know that it won’t stop spinning until the dash reads 11,000 rpm. The motor is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox. In the hands of a skilled driver, the package appears to be rather potent. The scream coming from the rear is all 911, but the high ride height screams Baja racer. That makes some sense, as the two brands are considering entering one in next year’s Baja 1000. Hopefully that becomes a concrete plan, as we would love to see exactly what the rally experts at Tuthill could do down in Mexico with one of these.

Only 100 units of the LFG are set to be built, and after last weekend, your chances of securing one are likely slim to none. Instagram clips will just have to suffice for the rest of us.
