NEW YORK (PIX11) — Drivers with unpaid tolls, ghost plates and license plate covers have been on notice. Police are looking for them and ready to write tickets or even seize vehicles.
A 16-member law enforcement task force held the 100th operation on the Robert F. Kennedy Triborough Bridge on Tuesday. Officials have called it “a coordinated regional effort.”
It was first organized in March 2024 as the number of ghost plates and unbilled tolls increased.
Congestion pricing was also initially to be implemented in 2024.
Since the program began, law enforcement around New York state has used license plate readers to scan vehicles on bridges, tunnels and some roadways. Units stop the drivers for unpaid tolls, obstructed plates, or other infractions.
Stolen cars and suspects with warrants have also been found. Sometimes, summonses are written. Arrests can also be made in certain cases.

5,300 vehicles have been seized by the task force in the past 17 months and there have been 1300 arrests.
About 50,000 summonses have been issued to drivers.
