Fliers who yearn for warmer weather in the coming winter will have another option with an added direct flight to Florida from Appleton.
Appleton International Airport (ATW) and Allegiant Airlines announced July 29 they will offer a seasonal nonstop flight to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers.
Flights will be offered seasonally, and will begin Nov. 21.
"This new route will make getting to Florida even easier for residents of Northeast Wisconsin," said Scott Volberding, assistant airport director, in news release. "Our focus has always been to make travel faster, easier and more convenient and that perfectly matches Allegiant's investment to expand another route to Florida."
The new Appleton-to-Fort Myers flight is one of seven new nonstop flights Allegiant is adding, according to its news release. These new routes are part of the airline's goal of "connecting underserved communities with affordable, convenient travel options," said Drew Wells, Allegiant's chief commercial officer in the release.
Part of the airlines' mission is to help travelers seeking lower-cost travel options," helping make "dream vacations possible with "budget-friendly fares," according to the news release.
"By adding Fort Myers and increasing service to multiple beach cities, we're providing travelers nonstop access to sunny destinations, meaning they spend less time at the airport and more time on vacation," Wells said.
Other Florida direct-flight destinations offered through ATW include Fort Lauderdale/Miami, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Sarasota/Bradenton and Orlando/Sanford. There are also direct flights to other warm-weather destinations such as Golf Shores, Alabama, Nashville, Phoenix and Las Vegas.
