You expect Batman to drive a tank, or at least a sinister-looking coupe with jet engines strapped to the back. What you don’t expect is for his next ride to come from Mahindra, an Indian brand more famous for tractors and budget off-roaders. Yet here we are, staring at the new Mahindra BE 6 Batman Edition — a limited-run EV SUV that looks like Bruce Wayne accidentally wandered into a Bollywood marketing meeting.

A Bat-Signal on Wheels

Mahindra teamed up with Warner Bros. Discovery to create the world’s first commercially available Batman-themed SUV, and it’s not some one-off show car either. Just 300 units of the BE 6 Batman Edition will be built, with bookings opening August 23 and deliveries timed for International Batman Day on September 20. Beneath the cape, it’s a legitimate EV with a 79 kWh battery, 286 hp, 380 Nm of torque, and up to 682 km of range.

That’s competitive with mainstream heavyweights — the sort of numbers that place it closer to the likes of the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus GX, which have earned reputations for durability and capability rather than comic-book theatrics.

Dark Knight Styling, Bollywood Drama

Outside, the BE 6 Batman Edition wears Satin Black paint with Alchemy Gold accents on the suspension, calipers, and badging. The iconic Bat symbol is stamped everywhere from the doors to the hubcaps. Inside, suede and leather trim carry the same black-and-gold theme, complete with a bat-shaped boost button, themed digital animations, and puddle lamps that project the Bat-signal onto the ground.

If that sounds like overkill, that’s the point. Unlike the cheapest V8-powered SUV on sale today, which sells itself on bang-for-buck muscle, Mahindra is selling theatre. You don’t just drive this thing — you star in it.

Why It Matters

It would be easy to dismiss this as a gimmick, but the Batman Edition hints at something bigger. Automakers are experimenting more with cultural tie-ins to capture younger, image-driven buyers. In India, Batman’s fandom is strong enough to move metal, and Mahindra clearly sees value in attaching its EV ambitions to a global icon.

This isn’t just clever branding. It’s also a proof-of-concept for Mahindra’s BE platform, showcasing that the company can build a stylish, tech-heavy EV with real-world range. In that sense, it’s not so different from China’s current trend of outrageous electric SUVs — like the Zeekr 9X, which pairs 1,381 hp with the largest-ever battery in a PHEV. Both stories underline how global automakers are throwing money and imagination at electrification to stand out in a crowded field.

The Bigger Picture

The Mahindra BE 6 Batman Edition probably won’t make it to U.S. showrooms, but it matters because it shows how much the auto industry is willing to lean on pop culture to sell cars. In the age of EV sameness — silent motors, similar silhouettes, minimalist cabins — differentiation is currency. Some brands chase horsepower, some chase heritage, and now, apparently, some chase Gotham.

It also raises the question: if Batman can have his own SUV, what’s next? A Wonder Woman crossover? An Aquaman amphibious EV? Stranger things have happened — but for now, the Bat-SUV is proof that the line between Hollywood and horsepower has never been blurrier.
