Crash With Elk Kills Former Miss Universe

Former Miss Universe and Russian model Kseniya Alexandrova was killed at just 30 when the car she was riding in hit an elk. While many news outlets are calling it a “freak accident,” we know larger wildlife pose a serious danger to anyone traveling in a vehicle.

In a twist, Fox News anchor gets caught up in DC crime crackdown.

The fatal incident unfolded back on January 5 as Alexandrova and her new husband were driving through a wilderness area in Tver Oblast to their home. He was behind the wheel and she was in the front passenger seat when the animal jumped into the road.

Her husband said he had a split second to react and so was unable to avoid the collision. In most accidents with other cars, drivers have at most two seconds to avoid the danger, which is why distraction while behind the wheel can be deadly.

It doesn’t sound like distraction was a factor in this crash. But as the car hit the elk, the animal went through the windshield, injuring Kseniya. When the dust settled, her husband said, “everything was covered in blood.”

Other people stopped to help and first responders arrived in 15 minutes, which is lightning fast for a rural area. The model held on as she was transported to a hospital in Moscow. There, it was determined she suffered serious injury to her brain.

But Kseniya fought for her life for weeks, finally succumbing to complications caused by her injuries on August 12.

This is why whenever we drive through wilderness areas, especially at night, we’re particularly careful. Deer and other animals have a tendency to sprint onto the road in front of you seemingly out of nowhere. And it’s sadly not that uncommon for them to go through the windshield if you hit them.
