Thought the Infiniti Q50 was dead for good? Think again, because Infiniti just teased a new generation at its dealer meeting in Las Vegas last night, as per Automotive News — and it sounds far more exciting than the version it would replace.
The new Q is reportedly coming out in the second half of 2027 and will be powered by the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 found in the Nissan Z. (Or, in other words, it will have the same engine as the outgoing model, as Nissan pulled the Z’s engine from the now-dead Q50 and Q60 Redsport models.) How will it be better, then? Well, AN reports that Infiniti is increasing power, with the new model rated for as much as 450 ponies versus the outgoing car’s 400-horsepower peak.
The other purported ace up this new Q50’s alleged sleeve is one we weren’t expecting: a manual transmission. This intel comes from unnamed sources, so take it with a grain of salt, however. In addition to the stick shift, those same sources claim the new Q50 will be offered with rear-wheel-drive. It sure sounds like Infiniti is aiming this sport sedan directly at gearheads if the above is true.

“The new Q50 is a visceral car with a twin-turbo that screams,” one of AN’s sources said. “It’s not practical, but it is fun.”
Infiniti Americas vice-president Tiago Castro teased some preliminary info on the new Q50, too. “It’s an opportunity to connect back to the roots of the brand,” Castro said, according to AN. He also called it “unapologetic and unexpected.”
“Unexpected” is an apt way to describe this info dump. An electric sedan was supposedly meant to follow the discontinued Q50 later this decade, but Infiniti instead chose to highlight a return to gasoline-powered performance at this forward-looking dealer meeting that also confirmed the return of the Xterra as an off-road SUV.
Photos shown to dealers depicting this new Q50 (badged Q50S) reportedly reveal it to be a “low-slung model” with a “swoopy profile, slender headlights and Skyline-styled circular taillights.” With this styling, ample power, RWD and a manual transmission, could Infiniti return to its glory days of the popular G35? We’ll just have to wait and see when the new sedan comes out in 2027... assuming the reports are true.
