While You Were Sleeping: Single Thief Steals Four Cars

Car theft is still quite the problem all over, including in Australia, where a single thief swiped four cars from a house. He did so by breaking into a house and taking the keys. Even more appalling was the fact the one guy pulled the heist off over the course of three hours while the family slept through it all.

The shocking crime went down recently in Melbourne. The man broke into the house, a tactic we’re seeing more car thieves employ as people put their key fobs in Faraday cages overnight. He stole the keys, a wallet, and a pair of wireless headphones.

Then he took off first in a 2019 Ferrari 488 Pista, driving the Italian exotic to an unknown location. He returned three other times, stealing a 2024 BMW M3 Wagon, 2009 Mercedes SLS 63 AMG, and 2011 BMW 135i.

Sadly, none of the stolen vehicles have been recovered by police, reports 9 News.

The total value of the heist was well north of $1 million AUD.

A surveillance camera caught the guy taking the Ferrari. In the footage, he’s wearing a hoodie and gloves, which is typical of car thieves. We’re guessing the guy knew the 488 Pista was at the home and went there to steal it, but he realized he could score the other cars and so took them as well.

What we can’t believe is that nobody in the house woke up during the crime, including while the guy was gone while driving away and coming back for each vehicle. That might have been for the better since many thieves carry a weapon while committing these crimes, making a confrontation with the suspect dangerous.
