Ford Celebrates the 2025 Mustang GTD's New 'Liquid Carbon' Edition with a Fresh Race Car Livery

Ford's latest halo car, the Mustang GTD, is almost here. And now that the pony-car-turned-supercar is about to arrive in owner hands, FoMoCo is celebrating with a one-off design for its race cars that shares a look with the a recently-unveiled special edition.

Instead of a typical blue and white livery, Ford's IMSA GTD Pro racer will wear this unique look during an upcoming round at Virginia International Raceway. The bare carbon base is an homage to the Liquid Carbon GTD, a bare carbon special edition unveiled in California at Monterey Car Week last weekend. Typical Mustang livery elements are outlined in chartreuse, while red accents complete the usual number box, mirror covers, and wing endplates.

While the bare carbon looks illustrate the similarities between the Mustang GTD and its racing relative, the GTD is actually the more advanced car of the two Multimatic-built pony cars. Since the road-going car is not limited by racing regulations, it gets helpful elements like an active suspension, active aerodynamics, and an 815-hp supercharged engine.

Despite those differences, the pair do share something major in common: both cars had a big year on track. Ford's new GT3 racer won its first major race at this January's 24 Hours of Daytona. The GTD, meanwhile, held its own at the Nürburgring with a 6:52 lap that easily beat out Ford's sub-seven minute benchmark goal for the car.

Mustang GTD deliveries are expected to start this fall. Until then, the Mustang GT3 can be seen racing in IMSA GTD Pro.
