Sporty, affordable coupes were still a viable market segment back in 2002. We gathered examples from Acura, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Volkswagen for a comparison test.

The Hyundai Tiburon, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Toyota Celica, Acura RSX, and Volkswagen New Beetle—none of them are still around.

Prices of our five test cars ranged from $19,344 to $24,752.

All were front-wheel drive, and all were equipped with manual transmissions.
