A Maine man was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol after a multi-car crash that shut down Cape Cod’s Bourne Bridge Friday night.
Police were called to the bridge at around 9:30 p.m. after a Ford F-250 rear-ended an SUV, according to a statement from Massachusetts State Police. First responders briefly closed the bridge to safely access the scene.
During an investigation, Garret Mullen, 37, of Lewiston, was found to be driving the F-250 while intoxicated and illegally possessed a firearm, according to the statement. He was arrested and faces multiple traffic and firearms charges.
Three people in the SUV were brought to area hospitals with injuries, one of whom required trauma care.
Mullen is expected to be arraigned Monday at Falmouth District Court on charges of felony OUI-liquor or .08%, serious injury and negligent; misdemeanor OUI-liquor or .08%; felony carrying a loaded firearm without a license; felony posession of a firearrm large-capacity feeding device; civil exceeding posted speed limit; misdemeanor possession a firearm while intoxicated, civil alcohol in motor vehicle, possession of an open container and felony possession of ammunition without firearms identification card.
Bourne Bridge reopened at around 10:40 p.m. to normal traffic.
