Police looking for a reported active shooter at University of South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WJBF)- UPDATE 7:13 p.m.- According to the University of South Carolina’s campus security, they have found no evidence of an active shooter at this time. Police are continuing to search affected buildings and ask that everyone continue to shelter in place until there is an all clear.

The University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus is reporting an active shooter at Thomas Cooper Library.

The suspect is reported as a white male with black pants, approximately 6 feet tall and still in the area. Everyone is asked to avoid the area and evacuate or seek safe shelter and barricade in a safe area as necessary until further notice.

Campus police suggests that people should defend themselves if they encounter the suspect and obey public safety officials’ commands.

Public safety officials are on the scene.
