COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are responding Sunday to an active incident on the University of South Carolina’s campus in Columbia.
A post from ‘Carolina Alert,’ an emergency notification system from the college, said there was an active shooter reported at the Thomas Cooper Library. The message also appeared on the college’s website; however, it did not state whether a shooting occurred.
“Subject is reported as a white male with black pants, approximately 6 feet tall and still in the area,” the alert stated. “Avoid the area. Evacuate the area or seek safe shelter and barricade yourself in a safe area as necessary until further notice. Defend yourself if you encounter the suspect. Obey public safety officials’ commands.”
People are asked to avoid the area and to seek shelter until further notice.
Law enforcement officials are on the scene.
