Man shot to death by state police special agent at home in Bay Colony, Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH — A man was shot to death midday Sunday in the Bay Colony neighborhood at the home of a Virginia State Police special agent.

Around 11:45 a.m., police say an unidentified 40-year-old man went to the agent’s front door and tried to break in, according to news release.

The agent, who has also not been identified, then got into a physical confrontation with the man. During the fight, the agent shot the man with his service weapon, police said.

He was taken to a local hospital but died of his injuries.

The off-duty agent sustained moderate injuries during the altercation and was taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.

The incident is under investigation by the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Richmond Division, according to the news release.

In accordance with department policy regarding police shootings, the agent has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
