(WHTM)– A Pennsylvania lawmaker says he plans to introduce a bill to create the “Fish PA license Plate.”
The legislation, proposed by State Rep. Josh Bashline, aims to create the Fish PA license Plate to honor the state’s history of fishing and conservation.
According to the memo, the legislation would require PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to offer a design contest for elementary school-age students to create the plate. The plate would be based on the winning design and would need to include Pennsylvania’s state fish, the Brook Trout, on it.

A portion of the funds from the Fish PA license plate would go to the Trout in the Classroom program. The memo says the PFBC offers the program, which introduces students to watershed conservation efforts, recreational opportunities, and more, by having students raise trout in their classroom before releasing them into a stocked waterway near their school.
The legislation has not yet been submitted for introduction.
