History of the Academy of Richmond County

Located in Augusta, the Academy of Richmond County was founded shortly after the American Revolution in 1783. It was initially an all-male private school.
It transitioned into a co-educational public high school after the Civil War. It is known for its long history and military training program.
The school underwent a relocation in 1802 and again in 1926 to its current building. Locals commonly refer to this school as Richmond Academy or ARC.
Today, according to Wikipedia, it is the sixth oldest school in the country and the "oldest existing public high school in the Southern United States."
