While the PA Turnpike has used the open road tolling system since 2020, it partnered with KUBRA in 2022 to provide customers who prefer to pay in cash the opportunity to do so.

Open Road Tolling (ORT) enables customers to be charged electronically and drive through the roadway without slowing down for toll booths. Still, some customers don’t use E-ZPass, don’t have a bank account, or would rather pay in cash.

Customers can visit the PA Turnpike website to see a list of nearby participating retailers to pay in cash.

“We are committed to evolving and meeting the diverse needs of our customers, and that includes deploying advanced technology that cater to customer preferences for toll payment options,” said PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton. “Whether digital options or cash, we have taken steps to make payment easy and convenient for our customers. By extending our KUBRA network, we’re providing additional convenience for cash-paying customers.”
