College is back in session, and Lubbock might be seeing a lot more faces this year as Texas Tech announced its largest incoming undergraduate class in school history.

According to the university, Texas Tech — on its first day of classes — welcomed more than 7,600 first-time college students — a 12% increase from 2024 and marking the largest class of first-time students in school history.

“Enrollment growth is a positive reflection of Texas Tech’s momentum, but more important is the success of our students once they arrive here,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. “These record numbers, along with rising graduation rates, demonstrate the commitment of our faculty and staff to providing students the resources and support they need to succeed."

According to the university, the previous record was set in 2023 and also marks an incoming undergraduate class of more than 10,000 students, comprising both students enrolling in college for the first time and transfer students.

Texas Tech also announced on Monday that preliminary graduation rates show improvement, with the 2024-25 academic year seeing a four-year graduation rate rise to more than 53% and the six-year rate increase to over 69%.
