Dave Kindig’s 800-hp V12-powered ’53 Corvette “TwelveAir” debuts at Corvettes at Carlisle 2025, blending vintage design with cutting-edge craftsmanship.
The annual Corvettes at Carlisle gathering is known for showcasing rare and unique builds, but this year one car is stealing the spotlight: Dave Kindig’s V12-powered 1953 Corvette, dubbed “TwelveAir.”
Created by Kindig-It Design, the custom build has already earned acclaim, winning the prestigious Ridler Award, and now it’s on display for thousands of Corvette fans in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Inspired by Chevrolet’s early Corvette Corvair concept, the TwelveAir reimagines the classic C1 with radical engineering and craftsmanship.

The car features a hand-formed aluminum unibody, crafted from 3003T0 and 6061 aluminum, and finished in Modern Classikk’s eye-catching “Infrared” paint with a subtle “Sagebrushed” accent. Underneath the striking design is a powertrain worthy of the bold exterior: a naturally aspirated 9.2-liter LS-based V12, custom-built by Race Cast Engineering. The engine produces an estimated 800 horsepower, delivered through a GM 8L90E eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from the C7 Corvette.

To ensure it performs as well as it looks, the car is fitted with Wilwood Aero6 brakes up front and Aero4 brakes in the rear. Inside, JS Custom Interiors reimagined the cabin with rich sienna leather and modern flourishes. A 3D-printed C1-inspired dash, console, and inserts—enhanced with ambient lighting—blend futuristic details with vintage cues.
Carlisle Events co-owner Lance Miller praised the build, calling it “the definition of creativity and excellence.” With more than 4,000 Corvettes expected to appear at the fairgrounds, the TwelveAir stands out as a highlight of this year’s show.

In addition to Kindig’s creation, the event includes competitions, a sprawling Corvette flea market, and the popular Downtown Carlisle Parade. The TwelveAir will remain on display at the Chip Miller Amyloidosis Foundation tent through August 23, offering fans a rare chance to see the award-winning custom up close.
