LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– Today, Michigan could have a new Superintendent. The State Board of Education will continue to hold public interviews for its top three candidates.

According to the State Board, members selected these three finalists:

Public interviews will take place during an all-day special meeting, with board members hoping to select and begin contract negotiations with their preferred candidate.

“We’ve heard from an incredible group of educators who are doing amazing work across the state and beyond and also want to congratulate the finalists,” said Dr. Pamela Pugh, president of the State Board of Education in a news release sent to 6 News.

“We were fortunate to have seven outstanding student-focused candidates to interview. During the finalist interviews, we will seek to learn more about which candidate is best prepared to lead the way in making continued improvements to the states education system, including meeting the eight goals in Michigan`s Top 10 Strategic Education Plan.”

State Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Rice announced in April that he is retiring from the state superintendency on Oct. 3.

According to the Board, the goal is to have a new Superintendent by Oct. 4, 2025.
