It's no surprise that Texas is attracting more and more residents, as a destination for retirees and an ideal location for company headquarters. A new study reveals which ZIP codes are gaining the most people.
Last year, nearly 26 million Americans (7.8% of the U.S. population) moved to a new home, according to online marketplace MovingPlace. In addition to the usual reasons to move — like a new job or starting a family — people are increasingly motivated to move by politics, the climate and affordability.
To better understand which areas are most desirable to movers, MovingPlace analyzed over 6.3 million moves booked via Porch Group Inc. in the first five months of 2025. Overall, the study noted the growing popularity of suburbs.
"Many of these popular ZIP codes sit just beyond major metro hubs, offering the best of both worlds: access to thriving job markets and urban amenities, paired with quieter living, better schools, and a stronger sense of community," the report said. "These migration patterns tell a broader story, that Americans are redefining their relationship with urban life, prioritizing quality of life over proximity."
Here's what the data revealed about Texas' most active ZIP codes.

Texas is 'America's migration hotspot'
There's no denying the Lone Star State has become the biggest state to move to. Of the top 100 ZIP codes in MovingPlace's analysis, 29 are in Texas. The state's migration data also aligned with the country's suburban shift: Many of the "hottest" Texas ZIP codes are near the metros of Houston, Austin, Dallas and Fort Worth.
Cypress, a Houston suburb, had the most inbound residents of the nation's ZIP codes with 3,638 in just five months. Texas ZIP codes dominated the top 10 list, claiming more spots than the other states combined.
MovingPlace attributed Texas' appeal to its affordability, job growth and abundance of space. Its technology, energy, manufacturing and logistics industries also attracts employers, as well as its lack of a state income tax. Young families and remote workers are drawn in by relatively lower housing costs compared to other coastal states.
"The dominance of suburban ZIPs reflects this, they’re moving to the edges of metros where they can afford larger homes, good schools, and a higher quality of life, all while remaining close to urban job centers," the report said. "Add to this the warm climate and business-friendly policies, and Texas is an attractive relocation option."
