After a Reddit user posted a photo of a dusty, seemingly abandoned C6 Corvette ZR1, speculation has been swirling around it. While some take the original poster’s story at face value, others seem to think there’s something funny going on, like maybe the car was staged to look like it had been abandoned.
Most people don’t want to drive with their own hands these days.
We personally have seen cars that look like this just sitting in parking garages in the past. Usually there’s quite the story about why it’s sat in the same spot for so long. But it seems the person who took the photo and uploaded it to Reddit doesn’t know what happened.
What we do know is the garage is located somewhere in Texas at the Reddit user’s place of employment. It also has a registration sticker which expired in December 2024. And that’s about it.
A car like this is worth around $100,000 in the current market, depending on mileage and its overall condition. But this isn’t some cheap ride you would expect to just be parked in a public spot and left for months on end.
Since the photo was posted to the r/Corvette subreddit, people have been offering up all kinds of theories about what might have happened. Some are quite plausible, while others are a little bit whacky.
Among them is speculation the C6 ZR1 owner died and the location of the vehicle is unknow to the heirs of the estate. Since it was left at a parking garage we’re assuming is attached to an office building, it’s likely the owner works or worked there, so that would be somewhere people would look for it.
Another theory is that the owner was deployed overseas. Hopefully, if a member of the military were to own such an amazing ride, he would arrange for it to be stored more properly while out of the country, if for no other reason than the potential for thieves to swipe it.
But our favorite theory is that the owner is in jail. We’re pretty sure if someone has the means to own such a prized sports car, that person could also make bail and so would’ve moved the vehicle by now.
Whatever happened, the Corvette ZR1 looks to be in good shape under all that dust accumulating on the body. Hopefully the owner retrieves it soon and has it professionally detailed.
