Actor Rainn Wilson posted a video on Aug. 25 discussing climate change after being evacuated from his Oregon cabin due to the Flat Fire.
The actor who played the part of Dwight Schrute in "The Office," said on social media that he, his wife, and their family had to be evacuated from their central Oregon mountain cabin due to an wildfire near Sisters.
Wilson, 59, said this is his fourth evacuation in six years.
In November 2024, part of the Wilson's Californian home was destroyed in a fire that burned through Los Angeles.
Wilson said he believes the West Coast fires are products of climate change.
"The driest 25 years over the last 1,200 years in the western states have been the driest on record," Wilson said in a social media video. "Part of the reasons for these fires going up and down the West Coast is the extreme weather events caused by human-made climate change."
The Flat Fire near Sisters in central Oregon has burned through at least 22,000 acres since it began on Aug. 21. It has destroyed four homes and a bird sanctuary, and has caused the evacuation of more than 800 homes.
Wilson said climate change has never been as extreme as it has been during the last 200 years.
"No matter where I go on the West Coast, there's fires ravaging the land, and it makes me really sad for our forests," said Wilson. "For God's sake, for the planet's sake, let’s do something for our great, great grandchildren."
The actor asked people to limit CO2 and other heat-trapping gases and help to create clean air by planting trees.
