Small Michigan town celebrates Labor Day weekend with inaugural festival

CROTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — On Aug. 30, visitors to American Legion Post 381 in Croton Township can attend a carnival and first ever Croton Summer Fest.

“The whole town is excited,” Christine Cole, director of the Croton Township Campground, said. “We’re hoping it to be an epic event for the community.”

Beginning at 1 p.m., families can enjoy carnival games, food trucks, prizes and a Ferris wheel outside the American Legion. All activities are unlimited for families that purchase a $20 wristband.

“The pricing is great for a family,” Cole said. “We have great carnival prizes for the kids.”

Beginning at 7 p.m., visitors can attend a four-hour musical performance from cover band Trixy Tang as well as enjoy a pop-up beer tent nearby.

“Come out and enjoy the music in the (evening),” Cole said. “Grab some food, grab a cold beverage.”

Grand Rapids ‘storybook walks’ encourage outdoor reading for kids

Many food vendors and suppliers are local to Croton Township, including The Jetty — a nearby ice cream shop.
