Iowa rainfall totals surpass 3 inches

Here are the cities in Iowa that saw the most rainfall from Tuesday, July 29, at 8 p.m., through 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Iowa Environmental Mesonet.
Perry: 3.61 inches
Cherokee 2.75 inches
Boone: 2.56 inches
Marshalltown: 2.28 inches
Sioux City: 2.05 inches
Cherokee and Fairfield have recorded the highest rainfall totals in Iowa since Wednesday, July 23, with 4.60 inches and 6.21 inches of rain, respectively.
Des Moines rain totals: How much rain did we get?
From Tuesday to Wednesday, 1.30 inches of rain fell in Des Moines, according to the Iowa Environmental Mesonet. Most of that fell early Wednesday morning, with 0.72 inches falling since 12 a.m.
Ames received 1.77 inches of rain since Tuesday evening, including 1.1 inches since 12 a.m. Wednesday. Ankeny has recorded 1.15 inches of rain since Tuesday evening, with 0.82 inches falling since 12 a.m. Wednesday.
What is the forecast for Des Moines?
Showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day on Wednesday with a high of 76 degrees and a 70% chance of precipitation, particularly in the morning and early afternoon. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Overnight, there's a 30% chance of showers and storms, with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 62 degrees, along with winds up to 11 mph and gusts near 18 mph. A flood watch for Des Moines and other parts of the state is in effect through Tuesday, August 5, at 1 a.m.
