Ford has decided to go a different route hyping the Mustang and celebrating its legacy, and it involves Hollywood. No, we’re not talking about a movie dramatically portraying the creation of the famous pony car, although such a thing might be interesting if done well. Instead, the Blue Oval has created something it calls American Icon: A Mustang Immersive Experience.
This Ram TRX owner thought no cop could catch his truck.
We suppose one could have an immersive Mustang experience by just taking one for a test drive, or even better by buying one and driving it daily. But Ford has created what might be the ultimate hype machine.

It’s not a museum exhibit, it’s not an amusement park ride, and it’s not a movie, but it’s kind of all three mashed into one. Naturally, this thing will only be offered to those who brave downtown Los Angeles, which we suppose is part of the experience.
The location might be due in part to the fact Ford has enlisted the help of Hollywood to create this magical experience. It sounds like it could either be an amazing encounter that will thrill not only hardcore Mustang fans but also people who don’t even like cars, or it might be a lot of hype and not much substance.
According to Ford, you’re immersed in the story of the Mustang, from its early conception as the company was trying to figure out how to create a vehicle that appealed to America’s youth, clear to the present day as that model line is cemented as one of the most iconic rides not only in the United States, but around the world.

To portray all those emotions, plus the visceral experience of controlling a V8 performance car, Ford says it turned to people who worked on Jurassic Park and Titanic. Why those two old movies were mentioned is a mystery – have these people not worked on something more recently?
We’ll see what this Mustang experience is all about when it opens in November.
