
Mercedes-AMG has pushed the boundaries of electric performance with its CONCEPT AMG GT XX, a technology showcase that demolished 25 endurance records during an extreme testing program at Italy’s famed Nardò high-speed track.

The highlight came with a run of 5,479 kilometers (3,405 miles) in 24 hours, obliterating the previous best by more than 1,500 kilometers. Engineers then set their sights on a bigger challenge: driving the equivalent of Earth’s circumference. In just 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and 7 seconds, the GT XX completed 40,075 kilometers (24,901 miles), lapping the 12.68-km circuit more than 3,100 times and averaging over 5,300 kilometers daily.

The feat was accomplished using breakthrough technology destined for the AMG.EA performance architecture debuting next year. The GT XX is powered by three axial-flux electric motors—two at the rear and one at the front—producing over 1,360 horsepower. A liquid-cooled battery with over 3,000 individually cooled cells sustained continuous high-output driving while enabling ultra-fast charging at 850 kW, enough to add 400 kilometers of range in five minutes.

Drivers held a steady 300 km/h (186 mph) throughout the marathon, pausing only for rapid-fire charging stops. Despite ambient temperatures reaching 35°C (95°F), the drivetrain delivered flawless performance, aided by a prototype charging hub co-developed with Alpitronic. Two vehicles ran the program simultaneously, finishing the global equivalent just 25 kilometers apart—an astonishing margin after more than a week of nonstop operation.

The test drew comparisons to Mercedes-Benz’s historic endurance programs, from the C111 experimental cars of the 1970s to the AMG ONE’s Nürburgring lap record in 2022. AMG executives said the GT XX proves that the brand’s electric future will deliver the same hallmark performance as its combustion predecessors.

For Mercedes-AMG, the message is clear: in the electric age, endurance, speed, and engineering dominance remain central to its DNA.
