Watch live: White House briefs press amid CDC shakeup, Trump crime bill push

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will brief reporters Thursday afternoon, a day after the Trump administration moved to oust the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

CDC Director Susan Monarez, who was confirmed to the role just last month, was fired Wednesday after she refused to step down following calls from Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. amid disagreement over vaccine recommendations. The move sparked resignations from four other top CDC officials, including the agency’s deputy director.

Lawmakers have pushed back on the firing, with some calling for oversight amid the shakeup.

The briefing also comes after Trump announced he was working with Republicans in Congress to pass a “comprehensive” crime bill, which comes amid the administration’s federal takeover of law enforcement in the nation’s capital.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT.
