ARDOT crews to install cable median barriers across Arkansas, causing closures

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Crews with the Arkansas Department of Transportation will be installing cable median barriers on highways and interstates in Arkansas in August.

ARDOT officials said this move is to increase safety on roadways, stating that traffic deaths and injuries often happen when a vehicle crosses a median and strikes opposing traffic.

During installation, inside lane closures may be in place in the locations below:

Interstate 40

Installation will be on parts of I-40 from the Faulkner and Conway County line near Conway south through Faulkner County and Pulaski County, ending near Lonoke.

Interstate 49

Installation will be on parts of I-49 from Alma in Crawford County north through Fayetteville in Washington County.

Interstate 530

Installation will be on I-530 near the I-30/I-530/I-440 interchange.

Interstate 540

Installation will be on I-540 in Van Buren in Crawford County near the I-540/I-40 interchange.

Highway 5

Installation will be on Highway 5 along the Pulaski County and Faulkner County line near Cabot.

Highway 7

Installation will be on parts of Highway 7 from El Dorado in Union County north through Camden in Ouachita County.

Highway 167

Installation will be on parts of Highway 167 from Fordyce in Dallas County north through Cleveland County and Grant County, ending at Highway 167/I-530 interchange in Saline County.

ARDOT officials said specific dates and times are subject to change due to weather and other instances. Digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades and signage will be used to notify drivers of the closures, officials said.
