Former Washington Wizards star and three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of running an illegal high-stakes poker game out of his mansion, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.

Arenas, 43, was hit with three charges following the arrest. He's charged with one count of conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business, one count of operating an illegal gambling business and one count of making false statements to investigators.

Arenas is accused of renting out his mansion in Encino for the purpose of hosting illegal high-stakes poker games. Arenas reportedly asked another man, Arthur Kats, to stage his mansion, find others to host games and collect rent from them for Arenas. Kats' name was not listed as one of the arrested parties on the U.S. Attorney's Office release Wednesday.

Five others were arrested in connection with the alleged poker game. One of the other men arrested, Yevgeni Gershman, is a "suspected organized-crime figure from Israel," per the release. The other five men arrested were also charged with one count of conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business and one count of operating an illegal gambling business.

Arenas — and the five other men arrested — will appear and be arraigned at the United States District Court in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday.
