For Sale: Final Honda V10 Engine Used By Ayrton Senna

The legend of the late Ayrton Senna will be enough to drive up the final bid on the last Honda V110 engine he ever used. Honda plans to put number V805 of the RA100E up for auction to the public. The last time it was used was during the 1990 Formula One World Championship in Senna’s McLaren Honda MP4/5B.

This abandoned warehouse hides a treasure trove of classic cars.

As you can clearly see from the photos, the engine is no longer assembled but instead is displayed in a nice case with glass doors. Honda Racing Corporation mechanics disassembled the mill with great care – after all, it’s a part of F1 history.

This particular engine was used by Senna during the warm-up at the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka Circuit in October 1990 and during the race for the Australian Grand Prix on November 4, 1990. Since then, it has sat untouched, until it was methodically taken apart, the pieces loaded into the display case.

Of course, for the 1991 F1 season, V12 engines were used, so this one was saved as the end of an era for the motorsport. Now it can be proudly displayed by a collector and/or enthusiast.

The auction of this engine is part of a new effort by Honda Racing Corporation to put key pieces of the company’s motorsports history in the hands of enthusiasts. In other words, you should see more memorabilia hitting the market in the future, including racecars, engines, and other components.

Bonhams will be handling the auction, which is set for August 15 in Carmel, California at the Quail during Monterey Car Week. The auction house estimates the engine will sell for somewhere between $80,000 and $120,000 even though it won’t have a reserve.
