After a heat wave brought straight three days of hot and humid weather that saw the heat index surpass 100 degrees, severe thunderstorms caused risks of flash flooding for parts of Delaware as July came to a close.

As August begins with cool and breezy weather, here's a look at how much rainfall those storms brought to the First State.

How much rain did we get?

Following the heat wave, portions of the area were hit by severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall to end the month of July.

Here's a look at some of the high rainfall totals collected in Delaware by the National Weather Service:

New Castle County

  • Greenville: 4.24 inches

  • Claymont: 4.08 inches

  • Bellevue Hills: 2.89 inches

  • Wilmington: 2.86 inches

  • Greenville: 2.39 inches

  • Ashland: 2.16 inche

  • Middletown: 2.04 inches

  • Naamans Creek, Claymont: 1.27 inches

  • Brandywine Creek, Wilmington: 1.10 inches

  • Newark: 1 inch

Kent County

  • Clayton: 2 inches

  • Felton: 1.63 inches

  • Leipsic: 1.19 inches

  • Dover: 1.12 inches

Sussex County

  • Lewes: 2.01 inches

  • Milton: 1.89 inches

  • Rehoboth Beach: 1.79 inches

  • Georgetown: 1.69 inches

  • Delmar: 1.57 inches
