MINNETONKA, Minn. (WJW) — If you ever find yourself driving through Minnetonka, Minnesota, you’d better make sure your tires are clean.

If not, you’re technically breaking the law.

That’s right. It’s not a joke.

It is against the law in Minnetonka to drive with dirty tires.

City code states that “a truck or other vehicle whose wheels or tires deposit mud, dirt, sticky substances, litter or other material on any street or highway” is described as a nuisance that affects public peace, safety and general welfare.

According to Hall Law Personal Injury Attorneys in Minneapolis, not only can debris from dirty tires make road conditions slick or obscure road markings, thereby increasing the risk of accidents, but dirt and litter on the roads can reflect negatively on the community’s appearance, leading to potential clean-up efforts by the city.

Drivers breaking the law could face a fine and would likely need to head straight for the carwash.

You’ll be safe in Ohio with mud-packed tires; however, the Buckeye State did enact a host of new laws at the start of 2025. You can see a list HERE.
